Youth Convos, a youth-focused Living Room Conversation group led by the Youth Council, and Citizen University’s Power Garden invite you to discuss Cancel Culture on August 30th at 4 PM PST/ 7 PM EST. We will be using a Teen Talks guide, adapted from the Cancel Culture guide.
Cancel culture has infiltrated media and community groups to withdraw support from celebrities, companies, or even family members. Although on the surface level cancel culture seems fundamentally hostile, a deeper view of cancel culture reveals a voice given to social groups and identities across the world to express their concern. The question arises: how can we engage in culturally competent practices online and in real life, and are our current actions effective for change?
Through this Teen Talk, we will listen and share our personal experiences with cancel culture in hopes of learning new perspectives on the subject. Participants will be set into break-out groups of 3-4 people and engage in a 45-minute conversation with guiding questions presented in our guide. After 45 minutes, breakout groups will return to the larger call to debrief.
This is a great way to discuss important events and concerns for society as well as expanding your network with Youth Council Alumni and fellows!
